We’re looking to find perfectly pragmatic people to join our small but highly effective team of web engineers, building unique tools to help people better manage their money.

Twelve key facts about us:

  1. We started in 2008, and have never pursued significant funding. We’re cashflow-driven, and are still co-founder led (indeed, it’s James here, writing these very words. Hi!)
  2. We build PocketSmith using Ruby primarily, and have a penchant for using Vue on the front-end.
  3. We’re a deliberately small team and believe that efficiency in engineering is better reached through smaller teams.
  4. We recognise our strengths, and as such we’re not looking for someone that needs mentoring.
  5. As a company, we love looking after our customers; over half our team are customer support folks.
  6. As a team, we love looking after the people that look after our customers. The support team is a first-class citizen at PocketSmith, not a cost center.
  7. We’re looking for excellent software engineers in general, but we’re most interested in a backend engineer right now.
  8. There are effectively no management levels in Engineering. Want to build or try something? Just talk to me (the CTO) and make it happen.
  9. We don’t hire often.
  10. We believe in the principle of strong beliefs, loosely held. We like people to stand by their convictions, but not in the face of reasonable arguments to the contrary. Pragmatic flexibility is key!
  11. We were remote-first before it was necessary (or cool). We have great offices and people in Dunedin and Thames, but you can work from home anywhere else in New Zealand too.
  12. This job ad remains open until we find the right person, or people. We want to take our time finding the perfect fit.

If this sounds like the sort of company that you may like to join, please get in touch with some information about yourself and a CV - send them straight to me at [email protected].
